About the development of the advanced telecommunication technologies and the telecommunication infrastructure in the Republic of Belarus

Acceptance tests of the first Belarusian model of the telecommunication equipment of the newest generation on the basis of the technology of synchronous optical data transmission SDH are going to take place in Belarus in the current year. Boris Shadrin, the technical director of the unitary enterprise “Minsk Production Association of Computer Engineering”(MPACE) – one of the creators of the program – informed about that. According to his information, the serial output will probably be adjusted in 2006. The development of SDH equipment, intended for the work in fiber-optic cables was performed together with the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics.

Boris Shadrin explained that fiber-optic cable is the most widespread sphere of the information transfer today. SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) technology is used for building transport network for fiber-optic cables. This is a standard for high-speed and high-performance optical telecommunications. This technology allows to organize a simple, economical and flexible infrastructure of telecommunication.

Within the next few years, as a result of the switching to the fiber optic cable on the primary telephone networks, the market of optical transmission system is going to be developed rapidly, their production is lacking in the Republic at present. In accordance with it, the decision to organize the output of such equipment in Belarus was taken, underlined Boris Shadrin. SDH technology came to take the place of out of date standards. It became to take root intensively as a result of mass installation of modern foreign digital dial exchange and the growing demand for high speed information transfer.

He also pointed out that today the modernization of the primary network in Belarus proceeds with the use of expensive foreign SDH equipment.

The project is financed at the expense of the state budget, 240 million of rubles are going to be picked out of it, as well as “Minsk production association of the computer engineering” own resources – 240 million rubles as well. As it is expected, Beltelecom, the republican unitary enterprise, is going to become the main consumer of the developing equipment. SDH equipment will give the opportunity to provide the parallel transfer via fiber-optic lines of different sorts of traffic: vocal, videodata, as well as local network Ethernet data.

Beltelecom is going to complete the modernization of the bus network and the replacement of the SDH equipment for DWDM in the first half of 2005. A powerful transport environment able to information transfer at a speed up to 400 Gbps is created at the network of the republican unitary enterprise “Beltelecom”. Works on brining the fiber-optic lines to every regional center are planned on the territory of the whole country for the maintenance of the equally high level of rendering of services. It is necessary to lay about 1,6 thousand kilometers of the optic cable. According to returns of the end of 2004, 94 out of 113 regional centers already have fiber-optic approaches. It is necessary to finish the building of the fiber optic rings with the placing of SDH (STM-16) equipment at the inside zone network of the level “province center – district centers”.
