On Researches of Belarusian Scientists

According to President of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NAS) Mikhail Myasnikovich, the research of Belarusian scientists is aimed at meeting demands of the Belarusian economy.

Within the framework of 48 state research and development programs about 120 agreements between main contractors and customers concluded. Among the clientele NAS President named the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry for Energy, Belarusian Concern of Oil and Chemistry, Minsk Tractor Plant, Production Association "Integral" and Belarusian Optical and Mechanical Association "BelOMO".

Mikhail Myasnikovich informed that within the framework of Kvant and Coherence programs new laser technologies and equipment for machine-building, medicine and other branches of economy were developed.

Budget expenditures of the programs made about $2 million, while products amounted to $11.3 million, Mikhail Myasnikovich informed. Moreover, 70 percent of the goods were exported.

Scientists also created packets of software and data processing models for supercomputers within Intellect and Infotech programs, Mikhail Myasnikovich informed. As a result Belarus, is forming the infrastructure of a modern information society. In particular, he said, last year they created a unique cluster complex SKIF K-500 with a peak performance of 716 billion operations per second, which stays among 500 world’s best computer systems.

Within the last three year,s the country’s scientists created 365 new kinds of equipment and machinery, 223 materials and substances, 217 technological processes, 79 systems and complexes. The volume of innovations has increased 3.5 times in technique, noted NAS President.

In 2003 $145 million worth of commodities was produced under state scientific and technical programs, while the budget assigned around $80 million for scientific development. The cost recovery of the programs makes 10 rubles per 1 ruble spent.
