High-Tech Park to be Constructed

The Minsk Times, March 2, 2006

Applications for the elaboration of an architectural concept for a new High-Tech Park have been submitted by 40 companies from 18 countries

The collection of applications to participate in the open international competition for designing an architectural concept for Belarus’ High-Tech Park is complete. Valery Tsepkalo, director of the Park’s Administration, has stated that more than 40 companies from 18 countries have shown interest in participating in the contest, including the USA, the UK, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Italy, Austria, Russia, Belgium, Poland, Iran, Lithuania, Moldova, Armenia, and Israel.

“This is an absolute record among similar competitions held in the country — as regards both the number and the geographic location of the participants. It should be noted here that the applications of Austria, Belgium and the UK have been sent from world renowned companies in the field of construction and design, companies that have world renowned architects on their staff,” Valery Tsepkalo underlined. He also said that the High-Tech Park will be constructed with a view mainly to its future export production and thus, in its architectural design, it should meet the highest international standards. The architects have the task of creating an integral urban planning structure, which should provide an efficient use of the construction site, currently free of other buildings, with a view to possible further development.

In April, Belarusian and foreign participants will submit models of the exterior of the Belarusian High-Tech Park. The commission will then select the best proposals. An agreement on the elaboration of a draught architectural plan for the Park will be concluded with the first place applicant. The total cost of the project will be about $450-500m. The intention is for the Park to become operational in 2007, while the whole investment program will take 5 years.
