Statement by
the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of
Belarus with regard to the Adoption at the 60th Session of the CHR of the
Resolution on the Situation of Human Rights in Belarus
The resolution adopted at the 60th session of the UN
Commission on Human Rights is entirely politically motivated and contains
allegations, which have nothing to do with reality.
The Republic of Belarus totally rejects all the allegations
and does not accept the resolution based thereon neither in letter nor in
spirit. The content of the resolution has nothing to do with the tasks of
international cooperation in the area of human rights.
Belarus has always demonstrated in deed its commitment to
human rights protection as well as its readiness for constructive and equal
dialogue on all issues linked to human rights protection.
Thet resolution was adopted under unprecedented pressure from
the USA and the European Union. It demonstrates the application of policy of
double standards towards our country pursuing independent foreign policy.
The principled position of our country is that the adoption
of such a resolution undermines the authority and credibility of the
Commission in the eyes of the international community.
The politicization of the Commission by the co-sponsors of
such resolutions will adversely affect its future as noted those Member
States who opposed its adoption.
The majority of countries endorse our position aimed at
preventing using resolutions on country-specific situations as a tool of
political manipulation, which instead of promoting cooperation leads to
confrontation and distrust.
It is not accidental that the majority of Member States – 30
out of 53- even despite the pressure exerted did not support that
resolution.
It is not accidental that a number of Member States proposed
not to consider that draft resolution in essence and not to take action on
it. And only procedural impasse prevented the Commission from the adoption
of that proposal: 22 delegations voted in favor, 22 - against with 9
abstentions.
This is an evident proof of a real attitude of the majority
of Member States towards the resolution.
