Commentary by the Press Secretary of the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs of Belarus to ITAR-TASS News Agency
(in connection with report by US Administration submitted
to US Congress in accordance with the Belarus Democracy Act of 2004)
Throwing in such information today, on the eve of the elections, is
primitive, “black” PR, and speculation. After all, the so called “Belarus
Democracy Act”, which the American side refers to, requested the President
of the United States to transmit the report to the Congress as far back as
in January 2005, that is more than a year ago. However, the report has not
been transmitted until now, for some reason right before Presidential
elections in Belarus.
Such petty speculations prove petty intents. Not to mention that such action
on the eve of the elections is an attempt of obvious interference in
internal affairs of another state. Just as the so called “Belarus Democracy
Act” itself.
I remind you that back then, in January
2005, the American side was provided with copies of tax returns of the
President of Belarus and members of his family to further transmit to US
President – with a concurrent proposal that the assets that allegedly
existed on foreign accounts be transferred to those who discovered them.
That proposal is still on the table.
