Press – Release
Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic
of Belarus in connection with the 10th anniversary of establishing
diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the United States
of America
Today is the 10th anniversary since the moment of establishing diplomatic
relations between the Republic of Belarus and the United States of America.
Ten year period is an obvious reason for summing up development of relations
between two countries as well as reflecting upon their further perspective.
Particularly when we talk about relations of Belarus with the nation that in
many instances defines future stances of contemporary world. The nation
which among first established with Belarus full-scale intergovernmental
relations.
The main of the results is valuable experience of interaction two states
have produced while defending common interests and searching for civilized
ways to solve disputable issues of bilateral relations and international
politics.
History of Belarusian-American relations during last ten years has not been
unsophisticated. Relations between our countries distinctly positive at
their beginning at the course of time worsened and political contacts at all
reached a freezing point.
The Republic of Belarus does not consider present state of affairs normal.
We remember positive experience of developing bilateral contacts at their
initial point. We prize assistance and support of the United States in
development of Belarus as an independent democratic state respectful of
human rights. We are confident today about existence of opportunities for
significant improvement of relations between Belarus and the United States.
There’s a need for getting rid of stereotypes of estrangement and hostility
and it is demanded by realities of today’s world, core interests of
Belarusian and American peoples.
The Republic of Belarus is ready to go through its part of the way towards
building relations with the United States based on responsibility, mutual
respect, and sensation of common accountability for international security
as well as understanding of mutual benefits from constructive relations
between two countries.
