Industrial Output in Belarus Increases by 11.2%
In January-April 2005 the industrial output in Belarus increased by 11.2% which made BYR 18 trillion 651.5 billion in comparable prices. Earlier it was forecasted that the industrial growth should reach 8-9.5%.
According to the Ministry of Statistics and Analysis, in the four months Belarus produced consumer goods worth of BYR 4 trillion 400,9 billion (10,8% growth). Production of foodstuffs reached BYR 2 trillion 80.3 billion (13,3% growth), non-foods – BYR 2 trillion 51 billion (8,4%), alcohol beverages – BYR 269,4 billion (9,7%).

Development Program Sees GDP Up 50% on ’05 by ‘10
Belarus' social and economic development program for 2006-2010 envisages a 50% growth in Belarusian GDP compared with 2005.
The Belarusian ruble is expected to depreciate to 2,760 rubles per one U.S. dollar in 2010 against the expected 2,200-2,300 rubles in late 2005.
The decision to work out a program for the medium-term outlook is in line with the law on state forecasting and socio-economic development
programs.
Ministry of Economy Prepares Forecast Concept on Social and Economic Development of Belarus for 2006
The Ministry of Economy prepared a preliminary draft forecast concept on the social and economic development of Belarus for 2006, Deputy Economy Minister Tatiana Starchenko said. The Deputy Minister of Economy noted that the draft concept envisages fundamentals for reducing the tax load by decreasing turnover taxes. Indices of financing the deficit of the republican budget are also
calculated.
The Ministry of Economy determined the forecast requirement of the Belarusian budget in funds in 2006 for financing state capital
investments.
This year tougher terms have been fixed for the forecast’s preparation. If in 2004 this work was held till July 1, today it should be completed till June 16 and submitted for the government’s consideration, the deputy minister stated. The peculiarity of the forecast preparation will be the fact that the year of 2006 will launch the implementation of a new program on the socio-economic development of Belarus for 2006-2010. The major perspective guidelines of this document have already been
determined.
Belarus Government Approves Minsk Downtown Reconstruction
The Belarusian government approved the program of reconstruction of the historic center of the country’s capital city, Minsk, until 2010.
The Minsk city administration is supposed to redesign Minsk traffic scheme to redirect transit traffic, calculate the cost of the traffic interchange at Bogdanovicha Street, Nemiga Street and Pobeditelei Avenue and construction of an underpass and a two-level interchange at Bogdanovicha Street and Kupaly
Street.
Also, it is planned to change the core activity of the building belonging to the Troetskoe Predmestie (Minsk Clinic #2) and some other buildings of the capital city’s historic center. Minsk authorities plan to build a business center, multi-level parking, spiritual and educational center of the Belarusian Orthodox Church and some other
entities.
The administration of the city is to coordinate with the president the detailed reconstruction plan by September 2005. The plan envisages the revival and restoration of the existing and demolished components of the historic center of the
city. |
