Alexander Lukashenko Expresses Condolences to King of Spain
Juan Carlos in Connection with Tragedy in Madrid
On March
11 President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko expressed condolences to King
of Spain Juan Carlos and the Spanish people in connection with the
explosions which had claimed many lives.
Belarusian Foreign Ministry Works on Uniting Integration
Processes in West and East of Europe
The
foreign ministry of Belarus makes all efforts in order that integration
processes in the west and east of Europe “do not become isolated”. Minister
of Foreign Affaires Sergei Martynov believes that both integration systems
are to move towards each other to create pan-European economic space.
While
commenting on possible accession of Belarus to the European Union, Sergei
Martynov stated that economically such step would in many respects cut the
republic from important sources of energy and raw materials, as well as from
markets in the east. “We have no intentions to give away these sources and
markets. The countries of the European Union are struggling to get access to
the markets of Russia, CIS etc”, he concluded.
On Meeting of International Chernobyl Forum
The second
organizational meeting of the International Chernobyl Forum under the aegis
of the IAEA was held in Vienna on March 10-12.
At the
meeting the participants considered the Forum’s results in 2003 and
discussed the further activity, including the preparation to the final
conference where the conclusions of experts on medical and radio-ecological
aftermath of the Chernobyl catastrophe will be presented.
Members of
the Belarusian delegation reported on the measures for liquidating the
consequences of the catastrophe and within the framework of the state
program for overcoming the Chernobyl catastrophe.
On Cooperation between Security Councils of Belarus, Poland,
Russia and Ukraine
Border
status and cooperation for fight against transborder crime should be a
priority in relations between Belarus, Poland, Russia, and Ukraine.
The talks
at the meeting of the heads of the Security Councils of Belarus, Poland,
Russia and Ukraine were dedicated to the most recent problems of
international regional security, extension of the European Union and NATO,
cooperation in the fight against international terrorism and organized
crime, strengthening regimes of non-proliferation of mass destruction
weapons, counteraction to illegal migration and transborder crime. A lot of
attention was paid to prospects of settling the situation in Iraq.
Participants noted that most dangerous threats to the modern world are
connected with international terrorism and organized crime. Opposing the
threats requires coordinated efforts of the international community led by
the UN and accompanied by the assistance of OSCE, NATO, and the European
Union. |
