Belarus MPs to Attend OSCE Winter Session
Belarusian parliamentarians take part in the winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in Vienna.
The National Assembly is represented by Deputy Head of the Commission for Local Self-Government and Regulations of the Lower Chamber Mikhail Orda and Head of the Commission for Legislation and State Construction Natalia
Andreychik.
Mikhail Orda said that “the winter session of the PA tables the agenda for the annual session of the Parliamentary Assembly, which is due to be held in Washington, DC in June 2005.”
In Vienna Belarusian members of Parliament are also planning to meet with their foreign counterparts, including western parliamentarians.
Belarus to Enhance Military Cooperation with Neighbors
Belarus is going to expand military co-operation with neighboring states, Defense Minister Colonel-General Leonid Maltsev said.
Belarus is planning to enhance military cooperation with Russia within the framework of the Union State as well as with the CIS Collective Security Treaty members.
The Minister stressed, that Belarus tries to maintain friendly relations with all neighboring countries.
Leonid Maltsev also underlined that military reforms will enable the Belarusian Army to resist modern threats and challenges and raise its battle capacity.
Belarusian Military to Join NATO Manoeuvres
For the first time a unit of the Belarusian Armed Forces will take part in a NATO-sponsored training, the Belarusian Defense Ministry reported.
The Belarusian military plan to join a tactical training “Cooperative Best Effort 2005” scheduled to take place at Yavorovsk training center (Ukraine). “The exercise is part of the NATO program “Partnership for Peace”. The training is supposed to prepare troops for partaking in actions aimed at supporting international peace and security,” said the source.
The Belarusian unit will attend the manoeuvres as part of a multinational peace-keeping battalion. The number of Belarusian military that will participate in the training will be 17, in particular, one motorized rifle squad and officers to fill supervising positions. |
